Huntington Safe Boating Week is returning for its fifth anniversary, with events taking place from Saturday, May 20 through Friday, May 26. The Greater Huntington Council of Yacht and Boating Clubs, in partnership with the Town of Huntington, promise an informative and fun week of events.

As safety is a key component of the week, boaters will be able to take a free New York State eight-hour safe boating class on Saturday, May 20. It’s an important class for all but is a requirement for boaters born after 1996.

Also on May 20, the U.S. Coast Guard Auxiliary and the Neptune Sail and Power Squadron will conduct vessel safety inspections — a no cost, no risk way to determine if your boat is properly equipped and in compliance with U.S. Coast Guard regulations.

Tours of the Eatons Neck Coast Guard facility are available on Saturday.

The Waterfront Festival takes place on Sunday, May 21 at Mill Dam Park in Halesite. Boat dealers and vendors selling boat supplies, nautical décor, and crafts will be in attendance and water displays will showcase rescue boats and historic boats. There will be a “Kid’s Zone” including a remote control boat basin, live performances by blues and rock bands, and wine, beer, and seafood.Huntington Waterfront Festival b

Go by boat to the festival — Mill Dam Park is across the street from the Huntington Town Marina. Transient moorings and docks are available at Willis Marina and West Shore Marina.

On May 22, take a free CPR class. On May 23, find out what you need to know if the skipper is incapacitated and you’re suddenly in command.

Listen to a lecture on “The Hapless Lexington” presented by Edward Carr, director of Huntington Maritime Services, historian, and author on May 24 at the East Northport Library.
