With the Great South Bay serving as its stunning background, the annual Fire Island Dance Festival is an amazing boating destination.

Hosted by the entertaining Tituss Burgess, this year’s festival takes place at Fire Island Pines on Saturday, July 16 and Sunday, July 17. The entrance to the Pines harbor is directly due south of Sayville on Fire Island; the harbor entrance actually starts east of the marina at marker “G1.” Follow that marker to “G3” and “G5” to enter. Transient slips are available at the Pines Marina (call 631-597-9581 to reserve); ferry service is also available.

There will be three performances featuring notable performers, dance companies, and choreographers, including Ballet Contemporaneo de Camaguey Cuba (in its first performance outside of Cuba), Dance Theatre of Harlem, Gallim Dance, KEIGWIN + COMPANY, Glenn Allen Sims and Linda Celeste Sims of Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater, Madboots Dance, and Al Blackstone.

The opening performance is on Saturday at 5:00 pm. There is also a sunset performance that evening at 7:00 pm and a closing performance on Sunday at 5:00 pm. Ticket prices start at $150.00 and are available via or 212-840-0770, extension 229.

The 22nd annual Fire Island Dance Festival is a fundraiser presented by Dancers Responding to AIDS. This event has raised more than $4.3 million since 1995, with the funds helping those in need throughout the New York area and across the country receive lifesaving medications, health care, nutritious meals, counseling, and emergency financial assistance.
