See, boaters get hungry when we’re out to sea. However, we don’t want to cut a great day on the water short when it’s time for a meal. We prefer to seek tasty spots near our favorite boating locations. That’s why boaters love our restaurant reviews! We scope out the places to dine, get the […]

Among the many restaurants in Port Jefferson Harbor, The Fifth Season will not only please the palette, but delight all of your other senses as well. Whether you choose to dine on the porch glimpsing the boats across the way, or upstairs at a window seat overlooking the Long Island Sound, you can relax to […]
Boaters visiting Northport will find a picturesque village replete with enticing eateries. Rockin’ Fish is a charmer among them. Northport’s village dock offers transient space on a first-come, first-served basis and Seymour’s Boatyard has transient moorings. Cross the street and stroll down Main Street — even if you check out the store windows you pass, […]
From the moment you walk into Schafer’s and spot the lobster tank, you’ll expect a fresh seafood experience. If given the option of choosing whether to sit downstairs or upstairs, I’d choose the upstairs on a sunny and clear day. From that vantage point, you’ll see the harbor and the ferries, as well as Connecticut, […]
If you’re not a Northport local, or someone whose boat is berthed at the Britannia Yachting Center, this small gem of a restaurant tucked into the marina may have escaped your attention. Stop by on a Tuesday and both your taste buds and your week will greatly improve. Why Tuesday? That’s the day that The […]
If you’re on the water and are hit by a wave of Chinese food cravings, you can satisfy it steps away from where you dock your boat. Located at the scenic Brewer Capri Marina, Dynasty offers a taste of China right on Port Washington’s quaint Inspiration Wharf. During one of my frequent visits, this time […]
Hidden away on Port Washington’s scenic waterfront and nestled into the Capri Brewer Marina West, Butler’s Flat is a charming little eatery known for its delicious clams and savory seafood. However, that’s not all that awaits you when you dine dockside for lunch or dinner. The menu offers standard American fare, such as cheeseburgers and […]
Northport is one of our favorite overnight boating destinations. The town dock at the foot of Main Street is always a place to be seen! When we pull into Northport hungry, we usually go for the tasty and great-value takeout of Maroni Cuisine, which is located a very quick walk from the dock. While known […]
If the hungry people on your boat all want a low-key meal for a reasonable price, Sweet Tomato in Oyster Bay is a good restaurant choice. A short walk from the Oyster Bay Marine Service docks, this storefront eatery has a counter for ordering what you’d like from the extensive menu. Start your meal with […]
The servers and support staff at Crew are very attentive and accommodating; everything (including bread) came out in a timely manner. Diners are immediately presented with the chef’s offering of duck confit in a delectable sauce (on the house), which is an enjoyable way to get started as you look over the extensive wine list […]
Sweet ‘n’ Savory beckons you to its doorstep, its siren song promising decadent delights. This crepe and rice pudding bar has quickly become a favorite among local residents and out of town visitors alike since its opening late last year. Owned by husband and wife team Ivan and Kim Albert, Sweet ‘n’ Savory is […]
The Mill Pond House will be celebrating its 10th anniversary this summer, in a building almost 100 years old. If I didn’t tell you that, you’d never guess, as everything here seems fresh and new. The restaurant, overlooking the Mill Pond in Centerport, is not a dock and dine destination. However, on a day when […]
It happens every day, whether you’re on land or at sea: hunger strikes! If you’re like us, you appreciate tips on where you’ll enjoy spending your dining dollars, and that’s what you’ll get from us in each issue. In the past year, our reviewers have happily dined at these restaurants: Andrra 39 Gann Road East […]
Situated in the center of Stony Brook Village, a short walk away from the water, sits Brook House Restaurant and Ice Cream Parlor. Open for breakfast, lunch, and dinner, this small, family-style restaurant brings joy and good vibrations to all who dine there. As you walk into the restaurant’s main entrance, your attention is riveted […]
A minute’s walk from Northport’s Town dock, Benkei is a truly exceptional Japanese restaurant that radiates warmth from the moment you step inside its brown decor.
Whether you dock your boat at the Port Jefferson Town Marina, Setauket Yacht Club, or at Danfords, and stroll down Main Street during the morning, afternoon, or evening, Z-Pita appeals. Breakfast is served every morning, and cheese or chocolate fondue is available every night, along with a primarily Mediterranean lunch and dinner menu. Once you’re […]
An eatery named after a ruined vessel may not sound all that inviting, and an unassuming main street diner may not look extraordinary. But as we all should know by now, names and looks can both be deceiving.
One of four La Parma restaurants on Long Island, this lively Southern Italian eatery along the shore of Manhasset Bay has a private dock. Along with plush and comfortable indoor dining, there’s an outdoor seating area and bar. The restaurant does not take reservations; we were advised when we arrived that the time to score an inside seat was less lengthy than a spot outdoors, so we opted to sit indoors and stroll by the water after our meal.
Boaters docking at the Port Jefferson Town Marina won’t need any navigational tools to find Gourmet Burger Bistro, though it is on a side street off Main, tucked into a strip of establishments. While it may not stand out at first glance, you’ll be glad you took a second look and stopped in for a meal.
Comfort and cuisine coexist nicely at Grasso’s. Stopping in for an early dinner on a lovely day, we spotted a few people chatting by the bar and heard the murmur of clinking glasses and laughing diners. We were immediately put at ease before opening the menu.
“Pentimento” is a term of art, describing an earlier image which reappears through a picture painted over it. At first glance, you cannot imagine how this applies to a storefront restaurant in a harbor village, but once you start tasting the fare, you will find that this contemporary Italian restaurant is aptly named. Chef Dennis Young blends old favorites in delicious new ways so that hidden tastes emerge and delight.
Amidst the many restaurants within a two minute’s walk of the Northport Village dock, Bistro 44 is a good choice for hungry boaters. The cozy booths and tables inside this refurbished 1950s building make for comfortable dining, while eating al fresco on the enclosed patio is an even more at-ease experience.
Though Mirabelle Tavern is the more relaxed and informal dining spot, there is nothing blasé about the food or the service.
To the casual eye, Jack Halyards is a laid-back kind of place. But once you sample the tasty fare, you’ll know the kitchen is focused on the details. Appetizers range from “Pine Island Oysters” to stuffed bacon wrapped dates. Salad choices were ample-sized and include Caesar, shrimp, and an appealing fig salad. Alongside such staples […]
When you bring your boat to Port Washington, you’ll find a plethora of restaurants offering a profusion of choices. For those days when you want to take out some delicious fare, or to dine in without breaking the budget, stop in at the Mediterranean Marketplace.
It’s not just a cliché: looks can definitely be deceiving. For example, when approaching Tommy’s Place, I spotted a TV showing Jets’ footage, and a sign for OTB. Uh-oh, I thought, I’m looking for a good restaurant, and this is just a sports bar.
The Ritz Café, facing Northport Harbor, is a small restaurant with a large menu of fresh, appealing fare. Couples seeking a casually intimate meal will enjoy the setting as much as families seeking satisfying cuisine.
