Phil’s Waterfront Bar and Grill

What a spot to have lunch or dinner! Phil’s, located at the Lighthouse Marina, has everything a hungry boater craves for lunch or dinner — easy access, a dockhand, great water views, outdoor and indoor seating, a large menu, a casual feel, a welcoming attitude towards kids, pleasant service, and live music Saturday evenings. There’s also a large bar area.

Start your meal with steamed clams, nachos, skewered shrimp, or sample Phil’s special recipe for Buffalo wings. Special appetizers on the day we visited included chilled or roasted oysters. Load your salad up with shrimp or chicken, or order a grilled tuna BLT and have the salad inside. Other sandwich choices include fried flounder, a roast beef wrap, and a grilled or blackened chicken sandwich.

There are eight burger choices on the menu. My dining companion went straight for the unadorned burger accompanied by crispy French fries, but all the diners at the table to our right simultaneously (and gleefully) announced “Tommy Burger!” when the server asked if they were ready to order. That burger is topped with asiago cheese, portabella mushroom, arugula, and sriracha mayo on ciabatta.

EntréPhil's Waterfront Bar and Grill window wateres include blackened salmon, shrimp scampi, and Phil’s namesake penne tossed with mushrooms, roasted red peppers, garlic, and shrimp, and coated in a light sherry cream sauce. There’s also stuffed flounder, fried chicken, BBQ ribs, chicken Milanese, and marinated rib steak. Don’t skip ordering from the tasty sides such as onion rings, curly fries (with cheese if you desire), sweet potato fries, linguine, and potato pancakes.

There are choices for vegetarians and gluten-free diners at Phil’s, but if your party includes vegans, I’d find another eatery. Despite calling in advance and being assured the kitchen would prepare a vegan meal, the man our server called over flatly advised me my “only options” were a bunless veggie burger or a green salad.

If you want to linger for the view or to keep an eye on the sporting events displayed across many TVs, check out Phil’s desserts. That is, if you can choose between tantalizing sweets such as chocolate spoon cake, blueberry swirl cheesecake, peanut butter pie, ice creams, and toasted almond tiramisu.
