Many boaters mark the start of the season with a tradition — dropping anchor and looking up towards aerial performers in the Jones Beach Air Show. This year’s show takes place Saturday, May 27 and Sunday, May 28 from noon until 5:00 pm each day.

The show features both military and civilian performances. Among those scheduled to appear at press time are U.S. Army Golden Knights, U.S. Air Force Thunderbirds, American Airpower Museum Warbirds, GEICO Skytypers, Farmingdale State College Flying Rams, David Windmiller, John Klatt Airshows/Jack Links’ Screamin’ Sasquatch, Sean D. Tucker, and Matt Chapman.

The best viewing locations for boaters are in the waters of Short Beach and Zach’s Bay. Short Beach is on the western tip of Jones Beach, just east of the inlet in Sloop Channel (near the U.S. Coast Guard station), and Zach’s Bay is on the northern side of Jones Beach State Park, accessible from Sloop Channel, just west of the State Boat Channel. Arrive early!

Seeing the show from your boat offers plenty of comfort and all the amenities you have aboard. We suggest including earplugs with your food, drink, sunscreen and other gear — many of the aerial performers entertain at low altitude and there’s a whole lot of zooming overhead.
