Lighthouse Waterfront Café

Lighthouse - Tab hauserWhen it comes to dock and dining restaurants, Lighthouse Waterfront Café has it all. Good food, welcoming service, and an attractive setting with inside and outside seating and a friendly outdoor bar featuring music every Friday.

We woke our taste buds up with a signature mojito of Bulgarian ginger vodka, tequila, and mint, and then enjoyed the delicious and rich lobster-filled mac and cheese (the chef uses lobster bisque). Be sure to share this starter or you won’t make it to your main course!  Other appetizers include the mahi-mahi soft shell tacos filled with slices of grilled tender fish lightly covered with a chipotle mayo and a salsa of mango, pineapple, red pepper, and cilantro.  Buffalo wings served medium had nice heat; they were crunchy outside and moist inside.  The butterflied pan fried shrimp has a coating that’s pleasantly thin and not greasy.

We enjoyed a tasty and ample main course serving of fish and chips, called a Cod Father here.  The Captain is a medley of shrimp, scallops, and cheese raviolis in a brandy infused cream sauce where the presentation and taste were both equally good.  The Chilean sea bass was seared and baked with a melt-in-your-mouth butter sauce hinting of tarragon, rosemary and wine; the fish’s texture was consistent and worked well with the sauce.  It was served with a side of al dente broccoli and carrots and a lightly flavored rice that soaked up the excess sauce. Order the garlic fries, too — they make a tasty accompaniment to everything from the nightly steamed lobster special to the traditional clam bake.

Non-seafood diners may choose from chicken dishes, a marinated skirt steak, or pasta. Vegetarian options include pasta, salads, grilled vegetables, and a veggie burger.  Save room for dessert — the death by chocolate layer cake and strawberry rhubarb pie are both worthy.

The Lighthouse Waterfront Café is located at Glen Cove Brewers Marina, which has six slips for boaters. The restaurant opens Mondays through Saturdays at 11:30 am and the kitchen closes at 10:00 pm. Brunch is served on Sundays starting at 9:30 am. The menu includes eggs, pancakes, and French toast, but I suggest treating yourself to the lobster Benedict.
