Port Jefferson Boater’s Maritime Festival

port jefferson boaters 2The fourth annual Port Jefferson Boater’s Maritime Festival celebrates the village’s rich maritime heritage on Saturday, June 6 and Sunday, June 7.

port jefferson boaters 5The festival takes place throughout the village from 11:00 am through 6:00 pm each day. There is transient docking available at the Port Jefferson Harbor Annex on a first-come, first-served basis. Transient space is available at the Setauket Yacht Club and Danfords Hotel and Marina. Make reservations in advance to ensure availability, as Port Jefferson is always a popular boating destination.

The festival features 50 boat displays and demonstrations of activities including kayaking, paddleboarding, sailing, and flyboarding. Entertainment for the whole family includes pirate shows and treasure hunts, art and photo exhibits, a clam eating contest, live music, and a touch tank. Exhibitors include the Long Island Maritime Museum, the Maritime Explorium, the Riverhead Foundation, and the Long Island Aquarium and Exhibition Center.

Joining in the festival this year is the Paddle Battle Long Island Port Jefferson race on June 6. Kayaks and stand-up paddleboards race two-and-a-half miles (in separate categories) on the harbor starting at 1:00 pm. Entrance fees for the race support organizations including the United Way of Long Island VetsBuild program, the Riverhead Foundation for Marine Research and Preservation, and the East End Tourism Alliance.

There will be food and drink from a half dozen local eateries and the Port Jeff Brewery at the festival’s Harbor Bistro.
