Ocean Beach Park

Fire Island

flyn 1Flynn’s is a waterfront gem located in Ocean Bay Park, offering fresh seafood, live music, and amazing ocean views. Established in 1937, Flynn’s is the perfect locale to have drinks or a meal by the water while enjoying the island’s breeze.

The drinks menu boasts some favorites, done Flynn’s style, such as margaritas and daiquiris, but it was the food menu that enticed me. There’s an extensive lunch and dinner menu, starting with seaside favorites such as the shrimp cocktail, baked clams, PEI mussels, and crispy calamari. Other appetizers include blazing buffalo shrimp served with bleu cheese and Baja taco dip. Flynn’s offers tasty entrées such as grilled mahimahi, Peconic scallops, fish tacos, an IPA beer-battered combo of shrimp, scallops, cod, and clams, served with dipping sauces, and diablo shrimp fettuccine. Choices of sides include garlicky greens, roasted Brussels sprouts with bacon and miso mustard, and a crispy onion ring tower. I savored a cup of lobster bisque (Flynn’s also offers New England clam bisque) and delighted in the grilled chicken wrap sandwich with fries.I indulged my sweet tooth with the thinly sliced chocolate cake for dessert — perfect!

Vegetarians can enjoy the veggie burger topped with sweet corn and black bean chipotle salsa, and vegans can savor the organic baby kale salad with chopped peanuts, garlic, scallions, and serrano peppers — just ask to hold the cheese.

Besides being a restaurant, Flynn’s is also a club, so there’s plenty to entertain the ears as well as the palate. When I visited, there was an event featuring live parrots and the music of — yes, Jimmy Buffet. The restaurant has DJ nights and features bands (check the website for weekend and club events). If that wasn’t enough, there are also dinner cruises leaving from the restaurant on Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays, with a buffet and often-spectacular sunsets.

Flynn’s marina rates include vouchers towards food and drink.  See their website or call for prices. If you come by ferry, Flynn’s is about a mile walk from the bustling boardwalk. It is definitely worth the trek!
