Fire Island Dance Festival

FI DanceThe only way to make the Fire Island Dance Festival even more of a fun event is to arrive via your boat.

The entrance to the Pines harbor is directly due south of Sayville on Fire Island; the harbor entrance actually starts east of the marina at marker “G1.”  Follow that marker to “G3” and “G5” to enter. Transient slips are available at the Pines Marina (for reservations call 631-597-9581); ferry service is also available.

This year’s 20th anniversary edition of the Fire Island Dance Festival, which runs July 18 through 20, will present FI Danceaworld-class dance companies and solo artists giving diverse and energetic performances which include Broadway numbers, ballet, Afropop-infused movement, and hula dancing — all boasting the scenic Great South Bay as the background.

The opening performance begins on Saturday, July 19 at 5:00 pm, followed by a sunset performance at 7:00 pm.  Sunday’s closing performance starts at 5:00 pm. Performers scheduled to appear include Ailey II, BalletCollective, Kristine Bendul, Waldemar Quiñones-Villanueva, Ryan Worsing, Marcelo Gomes, Nick Kenkel, Sara Mearns, and Nā Lei Hulu I Ka Wēkiu.

Ticket prices start at $125.00 each. The Festival is a fundraiser presented by Dancers Responding to Aids, an organization that supports more than 450 AIDS and family service organizations, ensuring that those in need have access to medicines, counseling, healthy meals, supportive housing, and emergency financial assistance.
